Data Plan Calculator — How Long Will My Data Last?

Data Plan Calculator

Estimate how many days your data plan will last based on how you use it.

Daily usage habits (hours/day)

Enter your plan size and at least one usage habit to see an estimate.

How it works

This calculator multiplies the hours you spend on each activity by a typical data rate for that activity — roughly 1.5GB/hour for video streaming, 0.4GB/hour for social media scrolling, 0.1GB/hour for music, and 0.05GB/hour for browsing and chat apps — to estimate your total daily usage. Your plan size divided by that daily figure gives you an estimated number of days.

Worked example: if you watch 1 hour of video, spend 2 hours on social media, and browse for 2 hours a day, that's (1×1.5) + (2×0.4) + (2×0.05) = 2.4GB per day. A 10GB plan at that rate would last roughly 10 ÷ 2.4 ≈ 4.2 days.

Video quality settings make the biggest difference — streaming at a lower resolution can cut video data use significantly, while HD or auto-quality on a strong connection pushes it higher. If your data keeps running out faster than expected, checking your video streaming quality settings is usually the first place to look.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my data finish faster than the estimate?

Video quality settings, app background refresh, software updates, and video calls all use significant data that can push actual usage above these typical estimates. Try lowering video streaming quality to stretch your plan further.

Does this include WhatsApp calls and video calls?

Not directly — voice and video calls use their own data separately from browsing. If you make frequent video calls, treat them similarly to video streaming hours for a rough estimate.

Which activity uses the most data?

Video streaming, by a wide margin — even at standard quality it typically uses several times more data per hour than social media, music or browsing.

How can I make my data plan last longer?

Lower video streaming quality, download content over Wi-Fi instead of streaming on mobile data, disable auto-play videos on social apps, and check for apps using background data.

These are typical planning estimates, not measurements from your specific device. Actual usage varies by video quality settings, app background data, and network conditions.
